Our friendly guides will collect you at Leh airport, and transport you to your hotel. On arrival we will have an orientation session where you will meet the fellow photographers and where we will discuss the tour over the next few days. Followed by dinner.

Due to the high altitudes of 11,500 feet and low temperatures it is at uttermost importance that we spend the first two days acclimatizating.

Day 2: Thikse & Leh

After breakfast we will head out to the Sham Valley to visit the confluence of Indus and Zanskar . As the waters of the Zanskar merge into the Indus, the landscape is almost magical.

OPTION 1: and the famous Hemis and Thikse Monastery.

OPTION 2: Basgo Fort, some 40km from Leh. This ancient fort, almost 5 centuries old, holds a complex of buildings that include some gompas. We’ll spend time photographing these monuments and the beautiful villages around them.

For sunset will be head to the Shanti Stupa to view the sunset and see the last rays of sun go over Leh Town and the surrounding mountains. Overnight in Leh.

Day 3: Leh & Nubra Valley

Leaving in the morning, we will head towards the highest point that we will reach during the tour – Khardung La. Be ready to see the mountainscapes like you have never seen before. As we slowly climb up the mountains, you will see jagged snowy peaks all around. Once on top of Khardung La – the world’s highest motorable pass, you will get to see vistas that you will never forget for the rest of your life.

We will descend to Nubra Valley to see the Shyok River meeting the Nubra River. Here we will spend time photographing the large valley that seperaates the Ladakh and Karakoram Mountain Ranges and nearby villiages. For sunset we will head to Hunder and Diskit to witness the sanddunes contrasting the mountainous landscape. We explore the sand dunes, looking for interesting perspectives to photograph. It is going to be a pleasant evening today in Nubra, amidst the sand dunes, Bactrian Camels and a beautiful sunset.

Day 4: Return to Leh, Overnight in Leh

After a relaxed morning visiting the incredibally beautiful Yarma village we will drive back to Leh crossing the Khardung La Pass and descending into the Indus Valley. We will spend the day photographing the changing landscapes of Indias remotest region. On the way back, we visit Diskit Monastery in the evening. The huge golden statue of the Buddha here is a sight to behold. Overnight in Leh.

Day 5: Leh to Pangong Tso via Chang La Pass; Overnight at Pangong Tso Camp.

After breakfast, we head to the Thiksey Monastery. Located a short drive away from Leh, the monastery is home to more than a hundred monks and is one of the largest religious centers in the region. The haphazardly spread group of buildings on a crag has a charming beauty and its structure is sometimes compared to giant Potala Palace in Lhasa. On a lucky day, we may be able to see extended prayers by a gathering of monks.

We continue to Chang La pass enroute to to the renowed Pangong Lake at an altitude of 4,350 metres (14,270 feet), stopping along the way to capture the scenic landscapes. We get across the pass with our vehicles wading through many icy and clear streams. As we climb up, it is another opportunity to see and photograph a different view of Zanskar Ranges. Soon after we cross Chang La, you will be surprised to see a lot of green grass, unlike the stark slopes we have just left behind. The first view of deep-blue waters of Pangong Lake will force you to halt there and gawk at its beauty forever.

We will spend the night in tented accommodation. Here we will learn to shoot panoramic views, practice time-lapse photography and do star trails.

Day 6: Return to Leh and Overnight in Leh

Witness the glorious sunrise over the lake. Here we will have breakfast and return to Leh stopping frequently to capture the marvellous vistas. Upon returning to Leh, we will have a productive preview session of all your images, and spend some time developing your editing skills through photoshop and lightroom.

Day 7: Leh to Tso Moriri and Overnight in Tso Moriri Camp.

Today will be a big travel day. After driving 225km south-east of Leh, we will witness the Changtang Plateau before arriving in Tso Moriri for an overnight. The best time to photograph this region is during the evenings. After a day’s productive photography, we camp overnight in Tso Moriri

Day 8: Return to Leh via Tso Kar and Overnight in Leh

Tso Moriri is a great place for birding in the morning. However, the angle of light at that time is not favourable for photography, so we spend a short time spotting birds before setting off towards Puga, a small village on our way to Tso Kar.

As we are travelling by Tanglang La, we should be able to spend time around this high-altitude pass doing ample landscape photography and also trying to spot lammergeiers and golden eagles. You will be given free time to explore the leh market before dinner.

Before retiring for the night we do a comprehensive review of the images clicked during the tour, sharing feedback and reminiscing the wonderful stories from the past week. We end the evening with a celebratory dinner at one of Leh’s finest restaurants.

Day 9: Tour Ends, Drop to Leh Airport and Departure from Leh

After check out you will be dropped to the airport depending on your flight times to return home with a bagful of great images and stories to share.
